In the updated FAQs of WhatsApp, it says that the app will not work for some of the Android users after February 2020.
The FAQ’s have clearly stated that all Android phones that run on Android 2.3.7 operating system will not support WhatsApp February 1, 2020, onwards.
It may be noted that users of Android phones running on Android 2.3.7 version “will not be able to create new accounts, nor will be able to re-verify existing accounts” after February 1, 2020.
The company also goes to say that this decision to end WhatsApp support for these particular Android phones will not have an adverse impact on its users.
WhatsApp has additionally announced that users using very old Android phones will be the only ones who will face the effect of this.
It is an established fact that most smartphone users change their phones in a few years as most people like to have the latest smartphone that is available in the market.
Based on this scenario Android phone users need not be bothered as WhatsApp will work on their phones.
WhatsApp has been requesting that users begin to use phones that have Android 4.0.3 or later software version so that they do not get affected by the stoppage of services.
In the most recent FAQ, the company has also asked its app users to utilise phones running KaiOS 2.5.1+, including JioPhone and JioPhone 2.
It may be noted that Jio and WhatsApp had come together to bring WhatsApp support to JioPhone and JioPhone 2 last year.
