Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd. the Chinese multinational technology company seems to have got itself in a soup as several vendors and businesses are cutting off ties with this Chinese manufacturer.
It appears that Huawei was aware of this move against them and have been working on their own OS for a while now.
As per reports that are out the OS will be named “Ark OS” as opposed to HongMeng which was thought of earlier.
Multiple trademark filings have been received and also published by the European Union Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) on the 24th of May.
The filings sought to patent the names “Huawei Ark OS”, “Huawei Ark” and “Ark OS” which goes to prove that one of these names will be the chosen name for the OS.
Till date there is no confirmation as to which name will be chosen, however it has been felt that in terms of global likability these names have a better edge than HongMeng.
Digging thru Huawei patents from China. Here’s one from 2017 for a UI design that looks a lot like Android but has this odd nav concept at the bottom of the screen… (there are literally no patents pointing to a new UI for “Hong Meng” OS or “Ark OS” or whatever they’ll call it. pic.twitter.com/aI9E6FYKK8

One of the popular Twitter leakers has shared a patent of Huawei from the year 2017 in China. Interestingly it shows a UI that is very similar to the Android with the only difference being a few navigational buttons at the bottom of the screen.
From what we have seen so far there are no later patents for any new UI by Huawei after this one so it looks like this is the layout that will be seen on the Huawei devices.
