Data haul by Android Flashlight app ‘deceives’ millions

Google Android AP

GoldenShores Technologies took ID and location data from the millions using their Brightest Flashlight app. An FTC statement said that the developer shared the data with ad networks and did not inform users about the same practice. In order to settle the charges that they have incurred, GoldenShores has now agreed to give users more control over what happens to the data.

In its statement, the FTC criticized GoldenShores for the lack of security and privacy which did not let people know that the app was logging their precise location and a unique identifier for their phone and was then sharing that information with advertisers on a wide basis.
