Eric Schmidt says Android more secure than iPhone

Eric Schmidt ( Executive Chairman of Google ) has made a public statement that the Android platform is more secure than the iPhone and following a comment by David Willis ( Gartner Analyst and Chief of Research for Mobility and Communications ) says that Android was not the primary platform for a number of people in the audience as they feel it is not secure, Schmidt defended Google’s Android OS by cutting him short.

David Willis says ;

If you taken an opinion or polled many people in this audience they would say Google Android is not their principal platform and when you say Android, people say, wait a minute, Android is not secure.

Eric Schmidt responds ;

Not secure? It is far more secure than the iPhone.

The report as per source elaborates on how Eric Schmidt tried to back his statement with an answer by pointing out how Android had more than a billion users and that since it was a platform that would be around for a while it goes through rigorous real-world security testing. Schmidt also added that in the distant future there would be an assumption that nothing was secure and that security would be devised on a per app basis for each user.

Android has been criticized for being more vulnerable to malware attacks compared to other platforms as there is less control over the apps available in the Google Play Store and there are many possible security exploits that could be exploited in many ways. Nevertheless , Google has been trying to improve and upgrade the security of Android to a great extent and had fixed some major security loops/holes with the Android 4.3 Jelly Bean update accordingly.
