Today comScore Inc. , leaders in measuring the digital world released data from comScore MobiLens and Mobile Metrix, reporting key trends in the Unites States smartphone industry for August 2013. Apple ( iOS ) ranked as the top smartphone manufacturer with 40.7% market share ( OEM ) while Android led as the number one smartphone platform with 51.6% platform market share. Google Sites ranked as the top mobile media property while Facebook was the top individual app ( iOS and Android ).
Taking into consideration the fact that 145 million people in the United States owned smartphones during the three months ending in August 2013 up by 3% since May 2013 Apple has ranked as the top OEM with 40.7% of United States smartphone subscribers and Samsung ranked second with 24.3% market share followed by HTC , Motorola and LG. Android as Google’s smartphone platform has ranked as the top smartphone platform in August 2013 with 51.6% market share followed by Apple with 40.7% market share. BlackBerry , Microsoft ( Windows ) and Nokia ( Symbian ) have also been listed in the chart above.
Google Sites ranked as the top web property on smartphones reaching 92.2% of the mobile media audience as can be seen above followed by Facebook , Yahoo! Sites and Amazon Sites. Facebook app for Android and iOS has ranked as the top smartphone app, reaching 75.7% of the app audience worldwide followed by the famous five Google-owned apps such as Google Search , Google Play, YouTube, Google Maps and Gmail ( stats in percentage can be viewed in the chart above )
