Samsung is Bringing the Flip Phone Back
In a world where the Android technology and gorilla glass large displays have been dominating, Samsung is doing the unthinkable. It is bringing back the flip phone at a time when it was long forgotten. There were many phones that were categorized as flip but none made their mark like the Motorola Razrflip phone. It was stylish and way ahead of the curve for its time. It became a living legend of its time.
There may be previous flip phone models like the Nokia banana flip phone that was used in the first Matrix movie when Neo was contacted by the sentinel. This was very basic and used to be all the rage back in the day, because everyone had seen the matrix. It seems like Samsung is trying something new by merging the reminiscence of flip phones with today’s Android phones.
Samsung’s Android flip phone SM-W2018 has been making quite a bit of buzz as it has played its part of keeping tech bloggers and news reporters busy for some time now. The expected launch of the Android flip phone is expected sometime in 2018 in India so the rumors about the legend and leaks will continue coming in. Yes, there have been quite a number of leaks including hands-on images in recent times and more of them have come to the surface, this time with a video.
The images don’t reveal much, except that the flip phone body detailing is done in gold color. There are supposedly rumored to be dual display panels on either side of the upper area of the phone. This area is said to fold downwards to cover the keypad that lies below it. There have been rumors that depict the Samsung Android flip phone as having two 4.2 inch Full HD displays on both sides of the top panel.
When the Moto Razr V3 flip phone was first launched, it had cutting edge features of that time, including a primary video camera, 5.5 MB internal storage, downloadable polyphonic ringtones, a TFT screen in 256k colors and a resolution of 176 x 220 pixels (with 128 ppi pixel density) and came in a striking silver or special edition black color.
The Moto Razr V3 has since been discontinued, but remains to be a legend to this day. But Samsung’s SM-W2018 has a certain component of nostalgia to it, which will stand to make it an exciting and memorable phone. It really does stand a chance to be a real contender for the flip phone hall of fame.
Samsung’s new Android flip phone sports the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 SoC, which will come with a 6GB RAM for top speed and performance. The internal storage capacity is 64GB while that is expandable to 256 GB via micro SD. The secondary camera is rumored to be 5MP while the primary one is 12MP. The flip phone will also come equipped with the Android 7.1 Nougat and Samsung Experience UI. The phone is a confirmed China exclusive but the real question remains – will it be inducted into the hall of fame like the moto Razr V3 flip phone?
