We are living in a world where there is so much data and it is very difficult to manage all of it in order to keep everything secure. In this highly connected modern world, all mobile devices are vulnerable to dangerous remote attacks and everything from your personal, official and financial data can be mined from your smartphone.

Not very long ago, Google became quite transparent regarding its efforts to make their only mobile platform – Android secure and has been constantly providing security patches for the mobile operating system.

Devices running on Android Marshmallow 6.0 or higher, can manually check which security patch your device is currently updated with to be safe and know about your phone in-depth.

Google’s Pixel and Nexus devices are the first ones to receive the latest Android updates as always since they are developer built. These security patches are first released for Pixel and Nexus devices and if you own a device from some other manufacturer, you have no option.

Every mobile company has to customize the security patch update according to their device’s specification after approving it.

Find Out Your Device’s Security Patch

  • Open your smartphone’s Settings Menu.
  • Scroll down to find ‘About Phone’.
  • Find ‘Android Security Patch Level’ and check the date of your device’s latest security patch.

Android Settings - 3 Simple Steps to Check Your Android Device’s Security Patch Level

In case you might not know, the date on the security patch is not the date at which you would have received Google’s security patch, but the day the patch was first released.

Google states that Nexus and Pixel devices receive ‘security patches for at least three years from when the device first became available’ or ‘at least 18 months from when the Google Store last sold the device’ — whichever of the two is longer.

Coming over to something more topic centric, if you are stuck with an old security update, you can check for updates manually.
