Wi-Fi vows – What can you do?
Your smartphone without a proper Wi-Fi connection is like a body without soul. In case, you are facing Wi-Fi connectivity issues with your smartphone, these tips and tricks can help.
Smartphones have really made our world – well smart. And this is just a start, these seemingly inconspicuous devices can do almost anything for you, from sending mails, setting reminders, making presentations to sharing everything you want to share with the world with just a few clicks – you can do it all and how. But one thing that truly makes your smartphone smart is a good internet connection and your amazing-looking smartphone is no good if you cannot connect to the internet.
Problems with connectivity is a very common problem even with the best Android devices- the device can’t connect at all or the connection is flighty and come and goes as it wants. If you are one of the unlucky ones who are at the mercy of an unstable connection, then it is time for you to pull up your socks and take action. This write –up will give you few tips and tricks for times when your Wi-Fi is not working.
Start with the basics AKA System Reboot and Airplane Mode
Most often than not all of us tend to ignore a solution that is simple. We tech geeks go on to exploring geeky, complicated methods. However, most of the time it is the classic remedies that provide the cure for a non-working Wi-Fi. The oldest trick is to deactivate and reactivate the connection. To do this go to the Quick settings menu, now with a swipe-down gesture from the top of the screen swipe Wi-Fi icon to disable it. There may be a case where the drop down does not offer you the above mentioned icon, in that case open the app drawer, go to Settings and open it from there.
Repeat the same process with your home router and turn it off. Now wait for some time – at the very least for two minutes and turn it on again. Apart from this procedure you can also try to turn on Airplane mode for a few seconds then turn it off. Now check your connection again – hopefully your problem will be resolved.
Try airplane mode or Go to Quick Settings and turn off the connect
Even after trying the above mentioned remedies, your internet continues to cause problems – try restarting your device.
In certain cases problem with your Wi-Fi might occur after you have updated to Android Lollipop. In that situation you should restart your smartphone in safe mode. The procedure is simple:
- Press the power button
- Hold down the Power Off option for a few seconds (select from on-screen options)
- In case you want to reboot to safe mode, select OK
- You can restart your device normally once it is in safe mode
Restart is usually enough to solve your Wi-Fi issue
In most of the cases the above mentioned solutions should prove enough to solve your Wi-Fi connection issues, however, if problem persists, you can follow this write-up.
Wi-Fi disconnects during Sleep mode
One of the most common reasons for Wi-Fi problem is that you have not enabled the Keep Wi-Fi during sleep option. In case you have not turned it on, your Wi-Fi will automatically disconnect from the Wi-Fi network in order to save battery.
To turn on this option you will:
- Go to Settings menu
- Choose Wi-Fi, tap on the three dots at the top right of the screen, tap Advanced
- Tap Keep Wi-Fi on during sleep option
If you want to enjoy seamless connectivity all the time select Yes/Always option
Keep you Wi-Fi enable even in Sleep mode
How to access hidden network or an ad-hoc
After trying the tricks that I have mentioned earlier your Wi-Fi still continues to face network issues then maybe it is because the automatic access to network is restricted. The reason for this restriction can be due to two reasons – the network is hidden for security reasons or the network you want to connect to belong to specific type.
If the case belongs to the former, you should know that most of the Android devices are not usually configured to work on ad-hoc network. However, the real nice guys in the XDA developers forum were unsurprisingly able to create a patch that was able to bypass this limitation. With this patch, you should be able to connect to these type of networks.
Now let me warn you that the solution offered by the XDA developers is meant for advanced users only. In case you are an amateur please refrain from using this option as any damage will be your own responsibility.
If your problem is due to a hidden network then you can try to add the network manually. Just go to Settings>Wi-Fi>Add network. Enter the SSID and the password. You should now be able to surf the internet and receive your messages on WhatsApp.
Try adding the network manually

I am a big Android fan and I make no bones about it. This is why I am very happy whenever I meet an Apple-to-Android convert.
