Moto G4 vs Moto G4 Plus – What All is New
Lo and behold, the newest members of the Moto family are here – Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus. However, this time they are not made by Motorola or Google, this time they are all Lenovo’s. The new G4 as usual is a device for the mass market while G4 Plus is of course the flagship. Now both the devices have certain similarities, but there are some crucial differences as well. Let us take a look at both these devices in detail and see how they fair.
The latest models look similar to the older ones but are more comfortable to handle
Design and build quality comparison
No surprises here – both Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus look almost identical. The only difference and the giveaway is the fingerprint sensor. This of course is present in the G4 Plus version and not in the G4. Both of these devices have 5.5 inch screens set in the familiar design of Moto G. The design is the same old one albeit with a few tweaks and an updated grippy silicone material. I know you are all excited about the design tweaks but the grippy silicone material and all the design tweaks come with a catch- dropping of IP67 water resistance. Well, this is what happens in the pursuit of thinness and lightness. The new Moto G4 is splash proof and not water proof.
Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus- both have 5.5 inch screens
Both Moto G4 and Moto G4 Plus have identical displays: 5.5 inches delivering Full HD (1920X1080 pixels) at 401ppi. This is all I have got about the display as Lenovo has been quite hush hush about specs for the screens.
The camera is better in the Plus version
Processor and storage
This one part totally and obviously depends upon the phone you will buy. Lenovo is speccing the Moto phones differently in different markets. Now both these phones have a Snapdragon 617 octa-core processor. The difference comes in the storage specs: the G4 teamed the processor with a 3 GB RAM and 32 GB of Storage and 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. The G4 has a simple 2GB of RAM and 64 GB of storage. However, you can easily expand both these devices with the help of microSD.
Just like in the past, you get lots of colours to choose from
Both G4 and G4 Plus version are available with Marshmallow. The smartphones are not stock Android but the good thing is that Lenovo has not gone crazy either. The devices have a new system widget and revamped camera- just small tweaks, nothing to scare you silly.
The G4 Plus camera is worth paying some extra money for
The front facing cameras of both Moto G4 and G4 Plus are five megapixels. However, the rear cameras are different for both the versions. The G4 comes with a 13 MP camera while the G4 is loaded with 16 MP camera which comes with phase detect auto focus, laser auto-focus, an LED flash and a wider aperture for low shooting. I do not know much about the G4 camera because Lenovo has not been really forthcoming about it, maybe because it lags behind its more expensive sibling in the snapping stakes.
Both the smartphones have a whopping 3,000 mAh battery with fast charging support. However, these charges differ as the Moto G4 has a 10W charger while the Plus gets a faster 15W charger.
It seems that pricing will be done keenly
Price and availability
The 2015 version of Moto G 8GB was $179. The specs and changes in the new versions suggest that both Moto G as well as G4 Plus will cost a bit more. Lenovo has released the UK prices and according to reports the smartphones will be available there from early June 2016. You can buy them from Tesco Mobile, Argos and Amazon for £169 (around $240). The Moto G Plus version will come into the market from mid-June, exclusively from Amazon for £199 (about $288).
Now, there were a lot of you who were disappointed with the Moto G (2015). Well, I think the new Plus version can lure you back. The price difference between the G4 and G4 Plus version is so small that you will regret buying the cheaper version unless you are on a really, really tight budget. The G4 is good, but the G4 Plus is better.
