Google play store these days is more than a tech play store for us. It is a friend that is always there to help us find the most exciting apps in the tech world. And when Google play store is not functioning properly we panic. The problem can be anything- an error message while you are downloading apps or in the worst case scenario the Play Store is not opening – imagine the horror. Do not worry because I have the solutions for all your problems. Now here are a few tricks and tips that you can use when the Google Play Store is not working for you.  And yes you can thank me later.

Clean out the Google Play Store Cache

This is one very common problem and you can get your Play store going again by just clearing the cache. If you do not know what a cache is then let me explain- this is the storage are of the play store that holds data temporarily which can be quickly retrieved and you do not need to reload it as well. To clean out the cache:

  • Go to Settings>Apps. Tap All>Google Play Store, tap the Clear cache button

Emptying cache data can help solve your problem

Clean out the Play Store data

This is quite similar to the first tip and you will delete your data similarly. However, the results of cleaning out your play store are much more drastic.  When you empty out the data in you’re from the play store you set the app back to square one and lose all the saved information. Look at the bright side; with all the data you also lose the glitchy data that was causing the problem. To clean the play store data:

  • Go to Settings > Apps > Google Play Store, tap Clear data.

Cleaning play store data can be drastic but it can help you get rid of your problem

Uninstall Play Store Updates

It happens a lot that an update to your Play Store app does more harm than good. This is why if you feel that the error occurred after an update, it is better that you uninstall the update.  To uninstall you will need to:

  • Go to Settings>Apps>Google Play Store, tap the Uninstall updates button

Once you have done this, you will see that Google Play store reverts to the original version – it means it will look like the initial version you had in your phone. Now, you have to search for a recent but not too recent version of the Play Store that you can download. You can easily do this by downloading it from the Google Play Store page on APK mirror.

APK mirror will have older versions of Google Play Store

Clean out cache as well as data on Google Play Services

We all know that Google Play Store is the heart of an Android device and the Google Play Services is its soul.  If you do not know what Google Play services do then let me enlighten you- Google Play services is the background process which mysteriously allows apps to communicate with various parts of your Android phone, send the push notifications, enabling them to sync and so on.

However, in some unfortunate cases the problems your Google Play store is facing can be due to Google Play Services. This is why you need to clear cache and data. To do that:

  • Go to Settings>Apps>All>Google Play services, tap Clear Cache button

In case this does not work, you will need to come back to the previous page and tap the Clear data button.

Tap on ‘Clear Cache’ or ‘Clear Data’ on the Google Play Service page

Get the latest version of Google Play Store on your device

This is also a tried and tested way to help get your Play store back in a working order. Install the latest version of Google Play services. You need to remember that the latest version of software is usually the most stable, this is why it is always advisable to keep it updated.

Keep you Google Service app up to date

Resetting the Google account on your device

Now this is a much more radical step then the others. After trying everything that I mentioned earlier, if your Play Store app is still not functioning properly, then unfortunately you might need to refresh your Google account on your Android phone.  You will need to remove your account and then add it again. To do this:

  • Go to Settings > Accountsthen tap Google.
  • Now select the Google account you want to remove and tap it, now tap the icon with three dots (menu icon) located at the top right and then tap Remove. You will need to do this for every Google account on your device.
  • Once you are done with this, go to Settings > Accounts > Add Account > Google. Now you will simply need to follow the steps on-screen so that you can re-add your account.

.Many times removing and re-adding Google account could solve your Play Store problems
