Samsung recently filed a patent for the authentication process using an iris scanner to compete with the fingerprint scanners being used of its rival devices, the iPhone 5S and the HTC One Max. The patent shows a prototype smartphone with all the necessary iris scanning technology included – a camera, proximity sensor, light emitting and a power supply unit. A proximity sensor will sense when the user gets near the phone whilst the iris sensing unit scans the eye and checks if matches the image initially stored.
